Poised for Performance

The Ringling is going worldwide with its tribute to international performing arts, opening in fall 2019.The Art of Performance will feature dancers, musicians, and theater ensembles from around the world in this two-season series. Many of the performers will offer masterclasses and post-performance conversations in addition to their performances, making this a great opportunity for immersion in another culture's performance art traditions.

First up in the fall are an Indian dance troupe doing classical Indian dance, then a Flamenco dance masterclass and performance, followed by a Grammy-decorated Cuban pianist/composer. This promises to be an enlightening and exciting series. Find out more and get tickets here.

Art in Abundance

I first shared information on the Dog Days of Summer Juried Art Show at Art Uptown earlier this summer when it was taking submissions, but now the exhibit is on! The opening reception for this exhibit featuring local artists is this Friday, during the Palm Avenue Gallery Walk, from 6-9pm.

Art Center Sarasota is finding inspiration in the technology of our times, with an exhibit this month featuring Instagram photography. Each week the Florida Collective, a small group of aspiring photographers on Instagram, rise to a challenge designed to get them out of their comfort zone, and this exhibit highlights 16 of the 28 members' photography. Very 2019!

If the most au courant isn't your thing, return to beautiful basics with Judy Saltzman's breathtaking watercolors exhibit, The Spirit of America, also at Art Center Sarasota. Her paintings, which blend realism and impressionism technique, are of ecologically protected areas in American nature, meant to highlight our country's natural beauty.

A Humbling Honor

It's an honor to have been named one of Sarasota's Women of Influence 2019! And congratulations to my fellow recipients, including other women of the arts such as the ladies at Florida Studio Theater, the Executive Director of the Sarasota Art Museum, and the CEO at the Van Wezel Foundation. I'm delighted to be recognized among all these inspiring women from all over the Sarasota area.
