A Mod Museum
After many years of watching the old home of Sarasota High School transform, art lovers can finally celebrate: The Sarasota Museum of Art will open its doors this December. Housed in the stunning historical building on Tamiami Trail, the museum will be over 15,000 square feet of space for exhibits, a bistro, shop, auditorium, and a sculpture garden. A gala will be held this December to usher in the first group of visitors before the doors open to the public. This month at theFirst Friday Palm Avenue Art Walk, which happens this Friday evening from 6-9pm, the Stackenborg/Greenberg gallery will host one of the most famous music photographers in the world, Rob Shanahan. Come for a meet and greet with the artist who has photographed rock legends such as the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr. Light bites, wine and beer will be served while Art Walkers enjoy his acclaimed photography.

Wrapping up on May 11, Women Contemporary Artists' juried spring show is on exhibit now at Chasen Galleries. The WCA was formed in 1984 by a group of 20 women artists who developed a plan to pool their efforts to encourage other women artists in the region on their individual artistic journeys. In our tropical paradise, the national market is less relevant than the local market. Many people on the national scale are anticipating a market correction that may have already happened here in Sarasota: we moved from a seller's market to a considerably more balanced market over the past year. A rise in inventory means that buyers have more options but overall, my outlook for Sarasota's housing market is that we will see the healthy balance continue for the foreseeable future.
